Online Payment Gateways in Jordan for E-commerce: A 2026 Guide

The main ways to take online payments in Jordan in 2026 are a card payment gateway from a Jordanian bank, a licensed acquirer such as MEPS or a regional gateway provider, CliQ instant transfers, eFAWATEERcom bill payment, and cash on delivery. Stripe and Shopify Payments do not list Jordan as a supported country, so a Jordan-registered business usually signs with a local bank or a regional gateway that settles in Jordanian dinars. The right mix depends on what you sell, who your customers are and how fast you need the money in your account.

Rules, availability and pricing change, so always confirm current terms with the provider or the Central Bank of Jordan before you sign.

How card acquiring works in Jordan#

A payment gateway is the software layer that collects the card details on your checkout page, runs the security checks and passes the transaction to an acquirer. An acquirer is the licensed bank or payment institution that holds your merchant account, receives the money from the card networks (Visa, Mastercard and others) and settles it into your bank account.

In Jordan, the acquirer is typically one of three types:

  • A Jordanian bank. Many local banks offer e-commerce acquiring with a hosted payment page; the agreement, settlement and support all sit with the bank.
  • MEPS (Middle East Payment Services). MEPS is an Amman-based payments company that, according to its own website, is licensed by the Central Bank of Jordan as a principal issuer and acquirer and offers e-commerce acquiring. In 2026 it announced Mastercard Click to Pay for its e-commerce merchants through Mastercard Gateway, a password-free checkout that uses tokenization and EMV 3-D Secure.
  • A regional gateway provider. PayTabs, HyperPay and Amazon Payment Services serve Jordanian merchants through acquiring partners. Amazon Payment Services states in its FAQ that it is available to merchants with a legal setup in Jordan, and Forbes Middle East reports that HyperPay signed an agreement with Arab Bank in January 2023 to provide e-payment services in Jordan.

Whichever route you choose, expect 3-D Secure (the OTP or banking-app approval step) on most card payments, so your checkout must handle it smoothly on mobile.

CliQ instant payments#

CliQ is Jordan’s instant payment system, owned and operated by JoPACC (the Jordan Payments and Clearing Company) and supervised by the Central Bank of Jordan. JoPACC launched it in June 2020. It lets customers send money in real time, 24/7, using the recipient’s IBAN, mobile number or a short alias, and it supports request-to-pay and return payments.

CliQ is now part of everyday banking. According to JoPACC, it was handling more than 5 million transactions per month on average by October 2024 and was integrated into the mobile apps of 19 banks. In January 2026, Jordan News reported that JoPACC launched an international CliQ service for incoming transfers only, with outgoing transfers to follow once the Central Bank completes its procedures.

For an online store, CliQ works well for deposits, high-value orders and customers without cards, and it can turn some cash on delivery orders into prepaid ones. Show your business alias at checkout and confirm payment before dispatch; automated confirmation depends on your bank or provider’s APIs.

eFAWATEERcom bill payment#

eFAWATEERcom is Jordan’s national electronic bill presentment and payment system. JoPACC describes it as launched in June 2014, owned by JoPACC and operated by MadfooatCom, and the eFAWATEERcom portal states that it runs under the supervision of the Central Bank of Jordan. Customers can find a registered biller and pay through participating banking channels.

It suits recurring or invoice-style payments (schools, subscriptions, insurance, B2B suppliers) more than impulse checkout. Biller onboarding runs through a participating bank or the operator.

Stripe, PayPal and Shopify Payments in Jordan#

The accurate position as of 2026:

  • Stripe: Jordan is not on Stripe’s list of supported countries for businesses. The United Arab Emirates is the only Middle East country listed. A Jordan-registered company cannot open a standard Stripe account in its own name.
  • Shopify Payments: Jordan is not on Shopify’s list of supported countries. Shopify says merchants in unlisted countries need to use a third-party payment provider.
  • PayPal: PayPal’s Jordan site says users can send and request money with an account. Cairo Amman Bank offers a PayPal service that lets its clients top up and withdraw PayPal funds to their bank account. PayPal can work as an extra option for international buyers, but check PayPal’s current business-account terms for Jordan before relying on it as your main gateway.

Registering a company abroad to use Stripe has legal, tax and banking consequences, so take professional advice first.

Cash on delivery: still part of the picture#

Cash on delivery (COD) remains widely used in Jordan, but it brings refused orders, return shipping, cash held by couriers and slower cash flow. To manage it:

  • Promote card and CliQ payments, with COD as an option.
  • Confirm COD orders by WhatsApp or phone before dispatch.
  • Limit COD for high-value items or first-time customers, or ask for a small prepaid deposit.

WooCommerce and Shopify integration notes#

WooCommerce. Most gateways serving Jordan offer a WooCommerce plugin, and Mastercard Gateway merchants can use a WooCommerce module that supports Hosted Checkout, Hosted Session and EMV 3-D Secure. Use the provider’s official plugin and test refunds and failed payments in sandbox mode. For a new store, our WooCommerce development team can handle the gateway setup end to end.

Shopify. Because Shopify Payments is unavailable in Jordan, you install a third-party provider app. PayTabs publishes a PayTabs Jordan app, and Amazon Payment Services lists Jordan among its Shopify app’s countries. See our Shopify development service for setup help.

Technical points that often get missed:

  • Currency precision. The Jordanian dinar has three decimal places (fils). Make sure your store and gateway format amounts the same way.
  • Arabic and RTL. The hosted payment page and SMS or OTP messages should work in Arabic, and your checkout should stay readable in right-to-left layout.
  • Webhooks and order status. Rely on the gateway’s server-to-server notification, not only the customer’s browser redirect, so orders are not left “pending”.
  • Data protection. Jordan’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023 took effect on 17 March 2024, according to law firm Clyde and Co. Review your privacy policy and what customer data your store stores.

Documents merchants usually need#

Each bank and provider has its own checklist, but Jordanian merchants are usually asked for:

  • Commercial registration and a valid vocational or trade licence that matches what you sell online.
  • IDs for owners, authorised signatories and beneficial owners.
  • A Jordanian business bank account for settlement.
  • A live website on your own domain with SSL.

PayTabs’ published website requirements are a useful benchmark: clear products and prices, terms and conditions, shipping, refund, cancellation and privacy policies, your legal company name and registration number, and Visa and Mastercard logos.

How to choose a payment gateway in Jordan#

  1. Define your markets (Jordan only, Jordan plus GCC, or international) and the methods you need.
  2. Shortlist one bank or MEPS option and one regional gateway; get fees, settlement times and refund rules in writing.
  3. Confirm a maintained plugin or app and a sandbox for your platform.
  4. Prepare documents and policy pages, then test the full flow on mobile in Arabic and English.

Digital payments in Jordan are growing fast: according to JoPACC’s 2025 Payment Systems Report, as reported by Intaj, total digital payment transactions rose 62% to 363.84 million, with a value of JOD 93.26 billion. For the wider picture, see our e-commerce services.

FAQ#

Can I use Stripe with a company registered in Jordan?

No. As of 2026, Jordan is not on Stripe’s list of supported countries for businesses, so a Jordan-registered company cannot open a standard Stripe account in its own name. The UAE is the only Middle East country Stripe lists. Jordanian stores usually use a local bank gateway, MEPS or a regional provider such as PayTabs, HyperPay or Amazon Payment Services instead.

Is Shopify Payments available in Jordan?

No. Jordan is not on Shopify’s list of countries supported by Shopify Payments, and Shopify says merchants in unlisted countries must use a third-party payment provider. Jordanian Shopify stores typically install a provider app such as PayTabs Jordan or Amazon Payment Services, which lists Jordan among its supported countries. Check each app’s current terms and checkout experience before choosing.

Can customers pay my online store with CliQ?

Yes. CliQ is Jordan’s instant payment system, run by JoPACC under Central Bank of Jordan supervision, and customers can pay your business alias or IBAN from their banking app 24/7. Many stores show their CliQ alias at checkout and confirm payment before shipping. Automatic order confirmation depends on what your bank or payment provider offers, so ask them about CliQ integration.

What documents do I need to get a payment gateway in Jordan?

Requirements vary by bank and provider, but merchants are usually asked for a commercial registration, a valid trade or vocational licence matching their online activity, IDs for owners and signatories, a Jordanian business bank account and a live website with SSL. The website normally needs terms and conditions, refund, shipping and privacy policies, and your legal company name. Confirm the exact list with your provider.

Should a Jordanian online store still offer cash on delivery?

For most consumer stores, yes, at least for now. Cash on delivery is still widely used in Jordan, especially by first-time buyers. It brings refused orders, return costs and slower cash flow, so promote card and CliQ payments first, confirm COD orders by WhatsApp or phone, and consider limiting COD for high-value items or asking for a small deposit.

Which payment gateway works best with WooCommerce in Jordan?

There is no single best gateway; it depends on your bank relationship, customer markets and the methods you need. Most providers serving Jordan, including bank gateways built on Mastercard Gateway and regional providers, offer WooCommerce plugins. Choose one with an official, maintained plugin, a sandbox for testing, JOD settlement, 3-D Secure and clear refund handling, and test the full flow before launch.
